For many families, making ends meet is becoming harder and harder to do on an almost daily basis, as proved by the latest statistics released by The Money Advice Service.
They show that an estimated nine million people are currently in serious debt, with five million of those in full employment and half even sacrificing basic goods due to a lack of finances.
It makes particularly unhappy reading for those living in the North of the country as Hull, Nottingham, Manchester, Knowsley and Liverpool are respectively named as the UK’s worst debt suffering cities.
A large number of those hit by significant debt will be forking out a substantial amount of their regular wage on high energy costs, namely, anyone living in a traditional household that still has the original windows and doors installed. It may even be the case that some of those people are switching the lights or their boiler off at essential times, just so that they can afford to live.
